Security tip of the month

Tip

Unvetted software = unlocked doors

In the world of cybersecurity, "free" often comes with a hidden price tag. Downloading software from unauthorized sources or using "cracked" versions is one of the fastest ways to deliver malware directly into your ecosystem.

Keeping your systems secure

  • Stick to the pros: Download software from trusted sources, like the software manufacturer's official site or a verified app on the App Store.
  • Avoid the "cracks": “Cracked” software has been changed by third parties to bypass licensing fees. Never use pirated copies or download software from unofficial sites, as it can hide malware or malicious code.
  • Use Terminal with caution: Never copy and paste commands or scripts from unofficial sources into your Windows or Mac Terminal, as you could be unknowingly granting a bad actor full control of your device.
