Creating and selling gift cards

Once you've configured your gift card settings, you can create and sell gift cards. You can also recharge an existing gift card, resend a gift card to a customer, or cancel a gift card if necessary.

Selling a new gift card

You can sell a new gift card by adding it to a sale.

  • Selling a new gift card on desktop

    1. Begin a new sale.
    2. Click Gift Card.

    4. Scan or enter a gift card code. Alternatively, click generate a new gift card code to create a new code.
    5. Optionally, click the checkbox next to Electronic delivery and enter the recipient and sender details.

    6. Click Add to sale.
    7. Finish the sale as usual.
  • Selling a new gift card on iPad

    1. Begin a new sale.
    2. Tap the + icon.

    4. Scan or enter a gift card code.

    6. Enter the amount you want to add to the gift card.

    8. Finish the sale as usual.
    9. Navigate to the Manager tab > Customers > Gift Cards.

    10. Find your customer's gift card, using the filters if necessary.

    12. Tap Email gift card.

    13. Enter the recipient's email address.
    14. Tap Email gift card.

    The gift card balance and scannable barcode will be sent to the customer's email address.

Redeeming a gift card

To redeem a gift card during a sale:

  • Redeeming a gift card on desktop

    1. Begin a new sale.
    2. Add items and (optionally) attach a customer to the sale.
    3. When you're ready to finalize the sale, click Payment.
    4. Click Gift Card.
    5. Scan or enter the gift card code.

    6. Click Go.

      The Current Balance and the maximum amount that can be charged to the gift card will be displayed. You can customize what amount will be charged to the gift card by entering a different value in the Charge field.

    7. Click Charge.

    8. If the sale total exceeds the gift card amount, add another payment method.
    9. Click Finish Sale.
  • Redeeming a gift card on iPad

    1. Begin a new sale.
    2. Add items and (optionally) attach a customer to the sale.
    3. When you're ready to finalize the sale, tap More Payments.

    5. Scan or enter the gift card code.

    6. Tap Next.
    7. If the sale total exceeds the gift card amount, add another payment method.
    8. Tap Finish sale.

The amount charged to the gift card will be deducted from the gift card's total. The new balance will be noted on the customer's receipt.

Recharging a gift card

To add more funds to an existing gift card:

  • Recharging a gift card on desktop

    1. Begin a new sale.
    2. Click Gift Card.
    3. Select or enter the amount you want to add to the gift card.

    5. Click Add to sale.
    6. Finish the sale as usual.

  • Recharging a gift card on iPad

    1. Begin a new sale.
    2. Tap the + icon.

    4. Scan or enter the existing gift card code.
    5. Tap Next.
    6. Enter the amount you want to add to the gift card.

    8. Finish the sale as usual.
    9. Optionally, tap Email receipt and enter the recipient's email to send an electronic copy of the receipt.

The new balance will be noted on the customer's receipt.

If you opted to send the recipient an electronic receipt, they will receive an email with their updated gift card balance and a copy of the gift card's scannable barcode.

Resending a gift card

If a customer loses their gift card or the email with their gift card's details, you can email them a copy of the gift card's information. To resend a gift card to a customer:

  1. If on iPad: Tap the Manager tab.

  3. Find your customer's gift card, using the filters if necessary.

  5. Click Email gift card.

  6. Select the previously-entered email or enter a new email.

The gift card balance and scannable barcode will be sent to the customer's email address.

Cancelling a gift card

Cancelling a gift card is permanent and can't be undone.

To cancel a gift card:

  1. If on iPad: Tap the Manager tab.
  2. Navigate to Customers > Gift Cards.
  3. Find your customer's gift card, using the filters if necessary.
  4. Click the gift card code to open its details.
  5. Click Cancel gift card.

  6. A confirmation window will appear warning that the cancellation can't be undone. Click Cancel gift card.

The gift card status will display as Canceled, and the gift card will be permanently deactivated.
