Hi. How can we help?

Setting up the Smart Terminal (WisePOS E) with Lightspeed Payments

The BBPOS Smart Terminal (WisePOS E) is quick and easy to set up with Lightspeed Payments. When you receive the terminal from Lightspeed, it will already be configured for your account, so all you will need to do is plug in and pair the terminal.

It is important that you only use the terminal supplied to you by Lightspeed, as any terminal obtained from a third party may not be correctly configured for your account and could present a security risk.

The terminal can either be set up via your Wi-Fi network or via an ethernet cable plugged into the supplied dock. In either case, the terminal will need to be on the same network as your Retail POS account.

What you'll need

  • BBPOS Smart Terminal (WisePOS E)
  • Power cable
  • USB to USB-C cable
  • Battery
  • Ethernet dock
  • Ethernet cable

To begin processing with Lightspeed Payments, the terminal will need to be powered on and updated. To set up the terminal:

  1. Open the back of the terminal by lifting up from the indentation at the bottom left-hand corner of the terminal.

  3. Replace the back cover of the terminal.
  4. Plug the power cable into the port on the side of the terminal and connect the USB end to a powered USB port.
  5. For best results, we recommend plugging the cable into a dedicated charging block into a wall outlet. Upon first use, the terminal will need to charge for at least 4 hours.

Connecting the terminal to your network

  • Ethernet

    1. Plug one end of the ethernet cable into your router and the other end into the ethernet port on the dock.
    2. Turn the terminal on by holding the power button on the right-hand side of the device until the screen turns on.

Your terminal will immediately connect to the internet and will remain charged through the dock. If you wish to remove the terminal from the dock, you'll need to make sure the terminal is connected to your Wi-Fi network. You must connect the terminal to the same network accessed by Retail POS.

  • Wi-Fi

You must connect your terminal to a WPA-Personal- or WPA2-Personal-encrypted Wi-Fi network. Open Wi-Fi networks that are not password-protected or enterprise networks are not supported. You must connect the terminal to the same network accessed by Retail POS.

To connect the terminal to your Wi-Fi network:

    1. Slide your finger from the left-hand edge of the screen to reveal a Settings button.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Enter the admin PIN: 07139.
    4. Tap Wi-Fi Settings.
    5. Select the desired network and enter your Wi-Fi password.
    6. Exit the Settings menu by tapping the back arrow in the upper left-hand corner of the screen.

Connecting the terminal to Retail POS

    5. In Lightspeed, enter the three-word activation code exactly as it appears on the terminal's screen (including the hyphens).

For first-time setups, the pairing code will automatically generate once the terminal has completed updating. To manually generate the pairing code on the terminal, go to Settings, enter the Admin code 07139, and tap Generate pairing code.

    6. Click Add.
    7. The terminal will return to the default screen and you are now ready to accept card payments.
    8. (Optional) Confirm the connection between Retail POS and your payment terminal by clicking Test connection.

Once the update has been successfully downloaded, restart the terminal and attempt the pairing process again.
