Setting up a barcode scanner on your iPad

Lightspeed Retail POS supports the following barcode scanners:

NOTE: To scan the barcodes included in the setup instructions below, you can either print or scan them from your iPad screen. If you choose to print the barcodes, please be sure to not stretch them as it will render them unscannable.

Zebra CS4070 Bluetooth scanner

Pairing the Zebra CS4070 Bluetooth scanner with your iPad

NOTE: Before using the scanner, insert the lithium-ion battery provided with the scanner and fully charge the unit (until all 4 green charge LEDs are lit).

  1. Press the scan button (+) to wake the scanner.
  2. By default, your Zebra CS4070 Bluetooth Scanner is set to HID keyboard mode. In order to use the scanner with your iPad, you must set the scanner to "Bluetooth MFi_SSI" mode. To do so, scan the Bluetooth MFi_SSI barcode below. The barcode is also available in your Zebra CS4070 Product Reference Guide.



  3. Press and hold the Bluetooth button on the scanner until the unit beeps and the blue LED begins to flash to indicate the scanner is in discoverable mode.
  4. On your iPad, open the Settings app.
  5. Tap Bluetooth.
  6. On the right-hand side, tap the Bluetooth slider to toggle it on (if it's off).
  7. Under OTHER DEVICES, tap the CS4070 entry to initiate paring. The Bluetooth button blinks slowly to indicate the scanner is paired with the iPad.

NOTE: Bluetooth pairing suspends temporarily while charging via a USB cable. Disconnecting the cable re-establishes Bluetooth pairing. You can also disable the beeper functionality by holding down the (+) button for 10 seconds.

Unpairing the Zebra CS4070 Bluetooth scanner from your iPad

To unpair the scanner from the iPad, scan the Unpair barcode below. The barcode is also available in your Zebra CS4070 Product Reference Guide.

Resetting the Zebra CS4070 Bluetooth scanner

If you need to reset the scanner, do the following:

  1. Unpair the scanner from the iPad.
  2. Scan the Reset Factory Defaults barcode below. The barcode is also available in your Zebra CS4070 Product Reference Guide.



  3. Follow the setup steps above to configure the scanner again and pair it with your iPad.

Socket Mobile Bluetooth scanner

Pairing the Socket Mobile Bluetooth scanner with your iPad

  1. Turn on the Socket Mobile Bluetooth Scanner by pressing and holding the small power button until the LED turns blue and the device beeps twice.
  2. By default, your Socket Mobile Bluetooth Scanner is set to HID mode. In order to use the scanner with your iPad, the scanner must be set to iOS mode. To do so, print and scan the iOS Mode barcode below specific to your scanner model. The iOS Mode barcode is also available in your Socket Mobile manual.

  3. On your iPad, turn Bluetooth ON from the Settings app.
  4. When the scanner appears in the list of Bluetooth devices, select it to begin the pairing process. When pairing is complete, the status of the device will be Connected.

Resetting the Socket Mobile Bluetooth scanner

If you need to reset the scanner, do the following:

  1. Unpair the scanner from the iPad.
  2. Scan the factory reset barcode specific to your scanner model, below. The factory reset barcodes are also available in your Socket Mobile manual.
  3. Follow the setup steps above to configure the scanner again and pair it with your iPad.

Increasing scan speed of the Socket Mobile Bluetooth scanner

To ensure the quickest possible scan speed when using a CHS 7Qi or CHS 7Xi barcode scanner in a high-volume environment, the scanner mode must be set to Decode 1D and 2D Barcodes. Print and scan the Decode 1D and 2D Barcodes scanner mode barcode below to enable the option. The Decode 1D and 2D Barcodes barcode is also available in your Socket Mobile manual.

Pairing the Lightspeed Bluetooth Scanner with your iPad

  1. Turn on the Lightspeed Scanner by pressing the trigger button once. You will hear a long beep followed by two short beeps.

    NOTE: If you're turning the scanner on for the first time, the scanner is in search mode and the blue LED flashes three times every second. If the scanner is already paired with an iOS device, the blue LED flashes twice every second.

  2. On your iPad, turn Bluetooth ON from the Settings app.
  3. When a Scan appears in the list of Bluetooth devices, select it to begin the pairing process. During the pairing process the blue LED on the scanner flashes once every three seconds. When the pairing is complete, the status of the device changes from Not Paired to Connected.

When the pairing process is complete, you can begin scanning barcodes in Lightspeed Retail POS.
