Hi. How can we help?

Creating coupons

Creating coupon items allows you to subtract an amount from an entire sale, as opposed to discounting specific items.

In Retail POS, you can use price rules to apply discounts to specific items automatically. You can also use discount rules to remove a fixed monetary amount or a fixed percentage from the retail price of an item.

Creating coupon items

  1. Navigate to Inventory > New Item.

Inventory page with New Item emphasized.

  2. Enter a relevant title in the Description field.

New item page with Description field emphasized.

  3. Select Non-Inventory from the Type dropdown.

  6. Click Save Changes.

Your coupon item will be created.

To apply the coupon to a sale, add your coupon item to the sale. The discounted amount will be applied to the sale total.

Marketing your coupons

Lightspeed Retail generates a system ID and a matching barcode for every item created, including Non-Inventory items such as coupons and promotions. You can use this to your advantage in a few different ways:

  • Print a label for this item. Keep this label on an index card or cheat sheet at the register so you and your associates can easily scan it and add the coupon to the sale.
  • Use a printed label for the coupon item and add it to a handout for distribution to your customers.
  • Use a scanner to save your coupon design with the barcode included as an image. Then use our Mailchimp integration to email the coupon to your newsletter subscribers. They can print the coupon and bring it into your shop for you to scan.
