Merchants using Lightspeed Payments with a supported payment terminal (Smart Terminal) can enable tipping directly on the terminal screen for a more streamlined checkout experience.
Tipping via the terminal is only available on the Smart Terminal (WisePOS E) and Retail POS running the most current iOS or desktop OS versions.
Enabling tips
Tipping on the terminal can be enabled through your settings in Retail POS. Tip settings can only be configured by Admin users.
To enable tipping on the terminal:
- Navigate to Settings > Tipping.
- Toggle on Tipping.
Configuring tipping options
- On the Tipping page in the Tipping > Hardware & Tipping Options section, choose Payment terminal to show tipping options at the terminal for the current location.
Customer-Facing Display options can be configured per register in Settings > Locations.
- In the Tip Options section, choose if tips will be displayed as a Percentage (%) or Fixed amount.
- Select whether tipping percentages are calculated After Tax or Before Tax. This setting will apply to all locations.
Some regions require tipping to be calculated on pre-tax amounts. For a full list of regulations, contact your local regulators.
- Enter the tip options that will display to customers on the tip screen. Customers will also have the option to select Custom or No tip.
- Click Save.
The Smart Terminal (WisePOS E) receives new or updated configurations when it connects to your POS application and can take up to five minutes to receive new or updated configurations.
