The Zebra DS2200 Series of barcode scanners has a corded (DS2208) and a cordless (DS2278) model. Both models are compatible with 1D and 2D barcodes. To set them up and start scanning items, they require little to no assembly and just need to be connected to a USB port on your computer.

Setting up the Zebra DS2208 barcode scanner (corded model)

To set up the Zebra DS2208 barcode scanner, you need the following:

• Barcode scanner
• USB cable
• (Optional) Cradle

To set it up:

1. Connect the USB cable to the base of your barcode scanner.

   

2. Connect the barcode scanner to a USB port on your computer.

   If you're connecting the scanner to a Mac and a Keyboard Setup Assistant pop-up displays, click X (Close) in the upper left-hand corner to cancel. Don't click Continue.

   

3. Enable an automatic carriage return after a scan by scanning this barcode (also found in the Quick Start Guide packaged with your scanner):

   
   

   If you have the Elo desktop bundle, skip this step. Your barcode scanner is already pre-configured for you.

4. In Retail POS, navigate to Inventory > Item Search.
5. Scan an item.

If the item you scan displays in your search results, your scanner is now officially set up. As long as it's connected to a powered-on computer, it should work going forward. You can also rest your barcode scanner in its cradle when you're not using it if it's included in your bundle or you purchased one.

Setting up the Zebra DS2278 barcode scanner (cordless model with cradle)

The Zebra DS2208 barcode scanner communicates with its cradle through Bluetooth. This is what gives it its cordless functionality. The cradle is then connected to a USB port on your computer so it can communicate with your Retail POS account and charge.

Before using the Zebra DS2278 barcode scanner in your shop, we recommend resting it in its cradle until it's fully charged. To indicate that it's charging, the cradle's LED light will turn orange and start blinking. Once it's fully charged, it will turn green and become solid.

To set it up:

1. Connect the cradle cable to the port underneath the cradle.

   

2. Connect the cradle to a USB port on your computer.

   If you're connecting the scanner to a Mac and you a Keyboard Setup Assistant pop-up displays, click X (Close) in the upper left-hand corner to cancel. Don't click Continue.

   

3. Enable an automatic carriage return after a scan by scanning this barcode (also found in the Quick Start Guide packaged with your scanner):

   

4. In Retail POS, navigate to Inventory > Item Search.
5. Scan an item.

The item you scanned should display in your search results.

Setting up the Zebra DS2278 barcode scanner (cordless model without cradle)

1. Connect the micro USB connector to your scanner and the standard USB port to your computer or a USB wall outlet. The LED light will be flashing green to indicate the scanner is charging.

   This connector is only for charging your scanner.

   

2. After the scanner is charged, unplug it from the Micro USB connector and scan the general discoverable mode barcode. This will allow your scanner to pair with your computer through Bluetooth.

   

3. Ensure that Bluetooth is enabled on your computer. From the device list, click the Zebra DS2278 model listed. This will pair your scanner to your computer.

Setting up the 2D barcode scan
