Hi. How can we help?

Setting up payment processing with Cayan's Verifone e285 terminal

The Verifone e285 is an EMV-enabled payment terminal for Cayan payment processing in Lightspeed Retail. The e285 is compatible with Lightspeed Retail for desktop and the Lightspeed Retail app for iOS.

In the box

  • Verifone e285 terminal
  • Communications module
  • 12V power adapter
  • Ethernet cable

Physical setup

The terminal will need to be fully charged and updated before it can be added to your Lightspeed account.

  1. To charge the terminal, plug one end of the provided USB charging cable into the terminal and the other end into a power source. For best results, we recommend plugging the cable into a dedicated charging block directly in a wall outlet. Upon first use, the terminal will need to charge for at least 4 hours.
  2. If the terminal does not power on automatically when plugged in, hold the green circle button until the display turns on.

Note: To power the terminal off, press and hold the red X button until the display powers down.

Adding the e285 payment terminal to your network

Before the terminal can be added to your Lightspeed Retail account, it needs to be connected to your local network. Once the terminal is plugged into a power source, it will automatically begin a boot-up and update sequence. This process typically takes several minutes. Once completed, the terminal screen displays the Genius by Cayan idle screen. You can now connect the terminal to your network.

  1. From the home screen, press 1,5, and 9 on the keypad at the same time. This will bring up three options.
  2. Press 15, and 9 on the keypad again to enter system mode.
  3. Tap Supervisor.
  4. Enter the default password: 1166832.
  5. Press Enter.
  6. Tap Administration > Communications.
  7. Tap Wi-Fi > Wi-Fi Scan. If your Genius e285’s Wi-Fi is turned off, the e285 will prompt you to turn on its Wi-Fi.
  8. Tap the network you wish to connect to. If successful, your device will notify you that it has saved the network. If unsuccessful, check that you are in range of your router.
  9. Tap OK and then press the cancel button.
  10. Tap Wi-Fi Configuration.
  11. In the PSK field, enter your Wi-Fi password using the number pad. Press the letter key repeatedly until the desired letter is displayed.

To switch between letters, numbers, and special characters, press the # button to cycle through input modes. The current mode will display in the screen’s top-left corner.
123: This mode will enter numbers when you hit the keys.
abc: This mode will enter lowercase letters (and 0 will enter special characters). Pressing 0 multiple times will cycle through the special character options (such as - / \ + # ! and .)
Note: this is how you add spaces as well.
ABC: This mode will enter upper case characters (0 does nothing).

  1. Press the Enter button to save the network password.
  2. Press the Cancel button to return to the Wi-Fi menu.
  3. Continue to press the Cancel button until you have returned to the main menu.
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the menu and tap run applications to launch the terminal's software.

The terminal may make a maintenance call to update its software. During this process, the display may turn on and off several times. The update process can take 10-20 minutes.

Note: If the terminal is unable to update its software automatically, contact Cayan customer support.
