Discount codes are a powerful way to attract new customers or to entice returning customers to purchase from your online store again. You can create one or many discount codes at once.

Lightspeed eCom allows a maximum of one discount code to be added per order at checkout.

Understanding discount syncing with Retail POS

Retail POS Price Rules don't apply to pricing in eCom (C-Series). Instead, eCom (C-Series) uses its own discount codes and discount rules modules for creating timed sales events.

Sales will be synced from eCom to Retail using the discounted price for all products in the sale. Retail POS won't display that a discount was applied to the sale, however product prices will be lower than usual.

Reporting on eCom sales within Retail won't show that discounts were applied. Instead, the report will just show the discounted price. Margins will still be correctly calculated since the margin is calculated from the price paid and cost of the product.

Enabling discount codes at checkout

To begin using discount codes for your online store, you will first need to allow discount codes to be used at checkout. To enable discount codes:

1. In your eCom admin, navigate to checkout.
2. Click Configuration.
3.  Toggle on the Discount Codes switch to enable discount codes at checkout.

Creating discount codes

With Lightspeed eCom, you can create a wide variety of discount codes to share with your customers. To create discount codes for your customers to use at checkout: 

1. In your eCom admin, navigate to Marketing.
2. Click Add Discount Code.
3. Enter the name or names of the discount codes you wish to create. When creating multiple discount codes at once, add the name for each discount code on a new line.
4. Set the discount amount or percentage to apply. 
5.  Click Enable discount code.
   
6. Review and edit the default settings to suit your needs. By default, discount codes: 
   • Are disabled and need to be enabled.
   • Are active for two weeks from the date they're created. You can adjust this in the Discount period section.
   • Can be used an unlimited number of times. To update this, scroll down to the Usage section, toggle Enable Usage Limits and add a number in the Discount can be used field.
   • Require no minimum total to be applied in the cart. You can change this under Settings in the To activate this Discount Code, shoppers must spend at least field.
   • Can be applied to all products and categories. You can change this by making a selection from the Apply discount to dropdown menu.
7. (Optional) By default, discount codes and discount rules can't be combined. The option to combine discount codes and rules needs to be enabled from the discount code settings:
   1. Navigate to the Settings section.

   2. Toggle Allow code to be combined with discount rules. 

      

8. When you've finished configuring the discount code, click Save.

Deleting discount codes in eCom (C-Series)

The two ways you can to delete discount codes is individually or in bulk. There is no way to recover deleted discount codes. Only delete discount codes when you have another record of the previous discount codes used, if needed.

To delete discounts individually:

1. In your eCom admin, go to Marketing.

   

2. Select Delete beside the relevant discount code.

   

3. Confirm you want to permanently delete the discount code by selecting Delete discount code.

   

To bulk-delete discount codes:

1. Navigate to Marketing.
   
2. Check the boxes beside the discount codes you want to delete.
   
3. Select X item(s) selected > Delete selected discount codes.
   
4. Confirm you want to permanently delete the discount code(s) by selecting Delete discount code.
