Security tip of the month

Tip

Beware of celebrity deepfake investment scams

Scammers are using advanced AI tools to create convincing "deepfake" videos, audio, and images of famous celebrities and business icons endorsing fraudulent investment opportunities.

By combining this realistic fake imagery and audio with fake news articles and polished social media ads, cybercriminals leverage familiar faces and promises of high yield, low-risk returns to make these schemes look legitimate.

How to protect yourself

  • Watch for AI red flags: Look for unnatural facial expressions, odd eye movements, awkward lip-syncing, or robotic voice patterns in videos.
  • Verify independently: Never make financial decisions based on a social media post alone. Check official company websites or trusted news outlets directly to confirm if the endorsement is real.
  • Question "guaranteed" returns: Legitimate investments always carry risk. Anyone promising massive, guaranteed returns in a short time is trying to scam you.

Remember, if an investment opportunity sounds too good to be true, it almost certainly is.
