Surcharging with Lightspeed Payments
You may choose to offset your credit card processing fees by transferring a portion of the cost to your customer through a credit card surcharge. Credit card surcharges are an additional fee applied to any transaction paid with a credit card at the time of sale. These fees are typically a percentage of the total bill added as a separate line item.
You are responsible for ensuring that you follow surcharging rules and regulations and are responsible for any non-compliance. It’s recommended to seek independent counsel before enabling surcharging.

Security tip of the month
Tip
Update your devices and stay secure
Regularly restarting your computers, iPads, mobile phones, hardware, and connected devices and keeping them updated to the latest operating system, firmware, and app versions are important steps in keeping your business secure.
Restarting your device helps:
- Clear temporary data and close background processes that can slow down your device.
- Potentially resolve Bluetooth or Wi-Fi pairing issues for connected devices.
- Finish installing updates that require a restart to complete.
A regular restart does not automatically start a pending software update. If you don’t have automatic updates enabled, updates must be initiated through your device settings or the App Store.
Updating your device’s operating systems (Windows, macOS, iOS, etc.) and apps as soon as they’re available is key to:
- Patching security vulnerabilities and enhancing security.
- Improving operating performance and compatibility between apps and devices.
- Enabling access to new features.
To update Windows:
- Navigate to Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Download & install or Check for updates.
- Complete the update and restart your computer.
To update macOS:
- Click the update notification when it appears in the upper-right corner of your computer, or navigate to System Settings > General > Software Update.
- Complete the update and restart your computer.
