Hi. How can we help?

Understanding Lightspeed Analytics calculations limitations

Table limitations

Analytics can only display 5,000 rows of results.

An inventory report with a warning 'Row limit reached. Results may be incomplete.' The columns list 'Item Metrics Days Since Sold','Item Metrics Days Since Received', and 'Calculation 1'.

An incomplete table with a calculated column won't let you sort by calculated results.

You can continue to sort by Dimensions and measures. The most common types of reports that may exceed their row limit will be Dusty Inventory or Customer Lifetime Value.

You can avoid this by applying more filters to your reports, for example: creating Dusty Inventory lists for only one Vendor or Category. You can also limit Customers by status, State, by name, and more.

Slow or broken reports

There is a threshold to how much calculation a table can take before it doesn't launch anymore. Enough calculations, including many rows and columns, can slow down your browser.

Currently, there is no efficient way of illustrating when a report is too calculation-heavy. This is why, in the best practices, it's recommended to save different versions of your report as the calculations become progressively more complex.

Value type issues

In some calculations, Analytics doesn't support mixing value types. For example, dates aren't treated as numbers. To work around this, extract a numeric value from the date to use in your calculation.

Overfiltering

If you're reporting on a dimension that has no associated data, values for that dimension won’t display in your results. For example, in a sales report showing quantity sold by category over the past week, adding Quantity on Hand may return unexpectedly low values. This is because the report only includes products that were sold during that period and shows their current Quantity on Hand by category.

To accurately assess inventory levels, use an inventory-specific report, such as the Dusty report with filters removed, instead of a sales report.
