Hi. How can we help?

Rearranging categories (Retail POS (R-Series)/eCom (C-Series) version)

Categories can be rearranged in both Retail and eCom.

  • Rearrange categories in Retail to maintain the link between Retail and eCom.
  • Rearrange categories in eCom to have different category structures between systems.

Rearranging in your Retail account

  1. In your Retail account click Inventory.
  2. Click Categories, located at the bottom of the page under INVENTORY SETTINGS.
  3. Click the name of a category to open its settings.
  4. Click the parent name or None on the right-hand side of Parent
  5. Click None or choose a new parent and click Ok.
  6. Click Save.
  7. Confirm your changes in eCom. Open your eCom back office and click Products Categories.
    • When your eCom category structure matches your Retail one, your changes are confirmed. Continue modifying categories in your Retail account to maintain category syncing and parity.
    • When you see your eCom category structure does not match, read Realigning your eCom categories for assistance.

Rearranging in eCom

Rearranging categories in eCom can make it difficult to trace which categories have come from Retail. Since the product category syncing will still continue, it's important to keep track. Making a personal note including the category's original location, its new location and the reason for the change can help. If an issue occurs, read Realigning your eCom categories for assistance.

  1. In your eCom account click Settings > Workflow.
  2. Disable the Maintain parent/child relationship when assigning categories to a product toggle.
  3. Click Save.
  4. Click Back to Settings > Products > Categories.
  5. Rearrange your categories using any of the methods outlined here
  6. When finished, click Back to HomeSettings > Workflow.
  7. Enable the Maintain parent/child relationship when assigning categories to a product toggle.
  8. Click Save.

Disabling - Maintain parent/child

Through this setting that is on by default, eCom follows Retail's design by assigning the full category tree when a subcategory is assigned to a product. For example, assigning a product to the T-shirt category assigns it to the full category tree: Clothing > Women > T-shirt.

Failing to disable this switch causes all products within the moved subcategory to be assigned the full category tree. If repeated, this can accumulate a large number of unnecessary categories. Depending on the size of your inventory, this can take a long time to resolve. See Troubleshooting categories for Retail/eCom for assistance if this has happened to you.
