Setting up the Lightspeed Retail stand for iPad

Once you’ve prepared your iPad for Retail POS, you can mount it on a stand for use by cashiers and customers. The stand keeps the terminal charged while helping to protect the device. Lightspeed offers two stands for iPad, and a universal stand that works for iPads and other tablets.

Stands can be purchased from the Lightspeed Hardware Store.

Setting up your Lightspeed Stand for iPad

  • US, Canada

Lightspeed Stand for iPad.

  • Crafted for stability, with a modern look and feel.
  • Magnetic swivel base for customer interaction during checkout.
  • Uses Lightspeed USB-C cable, with integrated charging built into the stand.
  • Compatible with:
    • iPad 10th generation.
    • iPad A16 11th generation.
    • iPad Air 11-inch 4th, 5th, and M2.
    • iPad Pro 11-inch 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generations.

Your Lightspeed Stand for iPad comes with:

  • iPad stand
  • Bezel (the outer frame that holds the screen in place on the stand)
  • 6 ft USB-C cable

    Only use the black USB-C cable provided with the stand. Other cables may disconnect or have issues charging the iPad. If you’ve received a red-and-black cable, it can be discarded.

Installing the Lightspeed Stand for iPad

  1. Connect the Apple USB-C power cable to the opening on the base. Be sure to use the black USB-C power cable, as other cables may disconnect or have issues charging the iPad.

  2. Plug the other end of the USB-C power cable into a power source.
  3. Turn the USB-C connector to the up position.

  4. Make sure your iPad is turned on.
  5. Place the iPad onto the USB-C connector. It will click when it’s in place.

  6. Check for a lightning bolt on the battery icon to ensure the iPad is charging.
  7. Position the iPad in the enclosure.

  8. Place the bezel over the enclosure. Press firmly around the edges to ensure the bezel is securely attached.

The stand can disconnect if an iPad is locked for over an hour. To prevent disconnections, adjust the iPad’s access settings:

  1. Navigate to Settings.
  2. Scroll down and select Touch ID & Password. If no password has been set, add one to the device.
  3. On the Touch ID & Passcode tab, scroll down and toggle Accessories to on.

  • Compatible with newer iPad models without Home buttons and with larger screens:
    • iPad 10th generation.

    • iPad Pro 11-inch 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generations.

Your Lightspeed Stand with Payments for iPad comes with:

  • Mobile Tap card reader

The Lightspeed Stand is intended to only accept payments using tap or the card dip slot. The Mobile Tap reader must be removed in order to accept payment with the swipe path. The reader must be charged separately from the stand, since it's incompatible with the stand’s integrated charging.

Installing your Lightspeed Stand with payments for iPad

  1. Connect the Apple USB-C power cable to the opening on the base. Be sure to use the black USB-C power cable, as other cables may disconnect or have issues charging the iPad.

  8. Place the bezel over the enclosure. Press firmly around the edges to ensure the bezel is securely attached.

The stand can disconnect if an iPad is locked for over an hour. To prevent disconnections, adjust the iPad’s access settings:

  1. Navigate to Settings.
  2. Scroll down and select Touch ID & Password. If no password has been set, add one to the device.
  3. On the Touch ID & Passcode tab, scroll down and toggle Accessories to on.

Attaching and removing the Mobile Tap reader

The Mobile Tap card readers use Micro-USB instead of USB-C, meaning it they're incompatible with the integrated charging of this stand and must be charged separately.

Place the Mobile Tap Reader in the cut-out section to attach it to the stand. The magnet will secure it in place.

To remove the Mobile Tap reader, lift it away from the magnetic base.

Setting up your Universal Stand for tablets

  • US, Canada

Universal Stand for tablets.

  • Supports iPad 9th Generation and older models and other tablets.
  • Magnetic swivel base for customer interaction during checkout.
  • Quick-removal option allows tablet to be easily removed from the base.
  • Uses Lightspeed USB-C cable, with integrated charging built into the stand.

Your Universal Stand for Tablets comes with:

  • Universal stand.
  • locking screw.
  • 180° USB-C cable.
  • wood screws.
  • Tablet connector plate.
  • Locking pin.
  1. To enable 180° rotation of the stand, turn the base to the final desired cable exit side (left or right).

  2. If you want to disable stand rotation, turn the base so the cable is routed to the right, then lock rotation by screwing in the locking screw.

  3. Feed the cable down through the stand, leaving the 180° connector at the top. The cable length must be enough to reach the tablet port without excess.

  4. Push the cable into the S-slot on the underside of the base, making sure to maintain the correct cable length.

  5. Push the cable into the S-slot on the underside of the base, making sure to maintain the correct cable length.

  6. Secure the stand to the mounting surface using the base adhesive or wood screws.

    1. Remove the film from one side of the tablet adhesive.
    2. Attach to the tablet connector plate, with the pull tabs hanging off.

    3. Remove the film from the other side of the adhesive.
  7. Place the tablet connector plate in the center of the tablet, with the cable channel facing the tablet charge port.

  8. Plug the cable into the tablet.

  9. Place the tablet onto the stand, maneuvering the cable into the channel.
  10. Optionally, if you’d like to lock the tablet to the stand, push the locking pin through the hole in the top of the stand. The pin can be removed using a thin pin or a paper clip.

Removing the iPad from a Lightspeed stand

The Lightspeed Stand and Lightspeed Stand with Payments for iPad both follow the same steps to remove the tablet from the stand.

  1. Using the top left rear camera cutout, gently push the top lefthand corner to release the bezel.
  2. Lift the left top corner of the bezel, and remove it.
  3. Gently tilt the iPad from the left, taking care not to over strain the cable connector.
  4. Pull the iPad left to remove it.
