Just as Lightspeed enables you to assign your customers different customer types (students, VIPs, etc), Lightspeed Loyalty allows you to divide your customers into customer Groups. It's a great way to target promotional offers to specific demographics or provide special discounts to students or seniors. To get started, navigate to Groups > Manage Groups.
My Groups
Use the My Groups tab to view your existing groups, add new ones, view which customers belong to a group, add new customers to a group, or focus your marketing on a specific group by sending mass emails or texts.
Each group will be listed with its name, how many customers belong to that group, and the group's description (if it has one).
To add a new group:
- Click Add Group.
- Enter the Group Name.
- Optionally, enter a Description of the group.
- Click Add Group.
In addition to viewing and adding groups, you can interact with existing groups in the following ways:
Click to view a list of the customers that are in this group. Customers can be added to or removed from the group through this interface.
Send a text message (SMS) to all customers who are in this group.
Send an email to all customers who are in this group.
Temporarily disable or reenable the group.
Permanently delete this group.
Manage Customers
Clicking Manage Customers will bring up a list of all customers currently in this group. You can search this list by typing all or part of a name or email address in the text box in the upper right.
To remove a customer from this group, click the button. You can also add existing customers to this group. To do so:
- Enter a name, email address or phone number in the Add Customer field. Lightspeed Loyalty will suggest possible matches.
- Select the desired customer from the suggested options.
- Click Add Customer.
Click Close to close this interface.
Sending Text Messages
To send a text message to all members of a group, click the button.
- Enter up to 300 characters into the Message field.
- If you want to send this message to more than one segment of your customer base, you can add more customer groups in the Groups field. If left blank, the text message will be sent to all of your customers.
- Click Send SMS.
- Click Confirm.
The message will be sent to every customer in the customer groups listed under the Groups field. Note that you have a limited number of text messages per location per month. For more information on sending text messages to your customers, see the SMS Marketing section of this guide.
Sending Emails
To send an email to all members of a group, click the button.
Then:
- Enter the desired Subject for this email.
- Compose your message in the Email Body field.
- Enter the names of the customer groups you want to send this email to in the Groups field. If left blank, the email will be sent to all of your customers.
You can enter certain variables into the body of your email to have Lightspeed Loyalty pull a customer's specific information from their profile. For example, Dear %full_name%, will replace the variable %full_name% with the first and last name in the customer's profile. The variables you can use are:
- %full_name%
- %first_name%
- %last_name%
When your message is ready, click Send Email.
Rewards
Depending on your settings, whenever a customer earns a particular reward, they are automatically added to the Group of customers who have received that reward in the past. As with the My Groups tab, you can view customers, send text messages, and send emails to the groups listed in the Rewards tab.
Note that you will not be able to manually add or remove customers from these groups through the View Customers interface; membership in these groups is entirely determined by whether or not a customer has received a given reward.
Locations
As with the Rewards section, depending on your settings, whenever a customer makes a purchase at a particular location they may be automatically added to the Group of customers who have purchased items at that location in the past. You can view customers, send text messages, and send emails to the groups listed here.
Note that you will not be able to manually add or remove customers from these groups through the View Customers interface; membership in these groups is entirely determined by whether or not a Customer has made purchases at a given location.
Spending
Lightspeed Loyalty will track each customer's purchasing history and may automatically assign them to the appropriate VIP and Time Away groups:
- Non-VIP: Customers who have spent $1000 or less throughout their entire purchasing history.
- VIP: Customers who have spent more than $1000 throughout their entire purchasing history.
- Been Away for 30 Days: Customers who have not made a purchase in the last 30 days.
- Made Purchases Recently: Customers who have made a purchase within the last 30 days.
Customers will be migrated from Non-VIP to VIP as their spending history exceeds $1000 and may switch back and forth between the Been Away for 30 Days group and the Made Purchases Recently group several times.
You can view customers, send text messages, and send emails to the groups listed here, but cannot manually add or remove customers from a group.
Special Days
If the Special Days campaigns are enabled in your Campaigns section, Lightspeed Loyalty will track whether or not a customer has been with your Loyalty program for over a year and whether or not their birthday is imminent. You can View Customers in each group, and view customers, send text messages, and send emails to each group.
The Birthday VIPs campaign awards a one-time reward to VIP customers on their birthday. Customers are added to the Birthday group 12 hours before their birthday and removed after it. This allows you to send email or text announcements to those customers inviting them to come in to redeem their reward.
The Sign Up Anniversary campaign awards a one-time reward to customers on the anniversary of the day they signed up for your Loyalty program. Customers are added to this group once they have been using your Loyalty program for one year.
You can view customers, send text messages, and send emails to the groups listed here, but cannot manually add or remove customers from a group.
