Hi. How can we help?

Rewards

The goal of your Loyalty program is to build a closer relationship with your customers, but they'll need to be incentivized to participate in the program. That's where rewards come in. Here, you will define what's on offer, whether it be discounts on specific items in your inventory through the earning of points, or one-time gifts to offer customers on their birthday. You have the flexibility to design the reward system that's right for your business.

Managing Point Rewards

The rewards created here will allow your customers to earn discounts on specific items when they redeem their Loyalty points. You'll be able to set the number of points required for each reward, specify which items are eligible for that reward, and decide the type and size of the discount.

To create a new reward:

  1. In the Lightspeed Loyalty Manager, navigate to Rewards > Manage Points Rewards.
  2. Click Add Reward.
  3. Select the Reward Type from the drop-down menu:
    • Points for Product: redeem points for fixed price or percentage discounts on specific items.
    • Points for Invoice Discount: redeem points for fixed price discounts on a sale.
  4. If you selected Points for Product in step 2, fill in the Reward Name (maximum 256 characters).
  5. If you selected Points for Product in step 2, enter a Description of the item (optional, maximum 256 characters).
  6. Enter the number of Points Redeemed needed to earn this reward.
  7. If you selected Points for Invoice Discount in step 2, select the Discount amount from the drop-down menu. This will automatically set the Reward Name and Description to reflect your selection.
  8. Enter the Groups that are eligible to receive this reward. If no groups are specified, all customers will be eligible for the reward.

  9. Click Add Reward.

At this point you will see the newly-created reward listed among any rewards that you already had.

Note that in the case of Points for Product rewards, your new reward is not yet connected to any items in your inventory, so none of your items are eligible for this reward. To connect a reward to items in your inventory:

  1. Click the green Manage button next to the reward.
  2. Enter the items that will be eligible to receive this reward. Items can be added by clicking:
    • Add Category: Select a category from the drop-down menu. All of the items in this category will be eligible for this reward.
    • Add System ID: Enter the System ID of the item you would like to make eligible for this reward.
    • Add Tag: Select a tag from the drop-down menu. All of the items with this tag will be eligible for this reward.
    • Add All Items: Every item in your inventory will be eligible for this reward.
    • More than one of these buttons can be used at a time to add various items to the reward in different ways.

  3. Select Percentage or Dollars as the reward Type depending on whether you want the discount to be percentage-based or a fixed number of dollars off.
  4. Enter the Amount, which will either be the percentage or number of dollars off.
  5. Click Save.

It's important to note that Points for Product rewards will only be selectable when redeeming points if the transaction includes an eligible item.

If you want to change the reward's name, description or the number of points redeemed to earn the reward, you can double-click on the appropriate field on the Manage Point Rewards screen, change the value, and press Enter on your keyboard.

Most rewards are earned through the redemption of Loyalty points, however you can also set up one-time rewards for added incentives.

Managing One-Time Rewards

One-Time Rewards allow you to provide your customers with an immediate benefit when they sign-up for your program, on their birthday, or to entice them to return to your establishment if they've been away for 30 days. These can be free items or discounts on specific items in your inventory.

To create one-time rewards:

  1. Navigate to Rewards > Manage One-Time Rewards.
  2. Click Add One-Time Reward.
  3. Select the Reward Type from the drop-down menu:
    • Points for Product: a one-time fixed price or percentage discount on specific items.
    • Points for Invoice Discount: a one-time fixed price discount on a sale.
  4. If you selected Points for Product in step 2, fill in the Reward Name (maximum 256 characters).
  5. If you selected Points for Product in step 2, enter a Description of the item (optional, maximum 256 characters).
  6. If you selected Points for Invoice Discount in step 2, select the Discount amount from the drop-down menu. This will automatically set the Reward Name and Description to reflect your selection.
  7. Select the Duration of time a customer will have to redeem this reward before it expires from the drop-down menu.
  8. Click Add One-Time Reward.

One-time rewards can help you demonstrate the value of participating in your Loyalty program without your customers having to wait until they've earned enough points for their first reward. They're a great way to entice your customers into signing-up! You'll configure when and how these rewards can be acquired in the Campaigns section.

A Note about Points for Invoice Discounting in Lightspeed Retail

When a Points for Invoice Discount reward is activated, Lightspeed Retail will add a non-inventory item with a negative price and the tag loyaltydiscount to the sale to offset the subtotal. This will be reported on differently than per-item discounts, as these rewards will appear to the system to be item sales, rather than discounts.

To isolate the value of invoice discounts awarded:

  1. Navigate to the Reports section in Lightspeed Retail.
  2. Open the Lines report or the Grouped Sales Totals by Item report.
  3. Open the Advanced search options.
  4. Enter loyaltydiscount in the Tags field.

Conversely, you can also enter loyaltydiscount in the Exclude Tags field to report on the value of sales before the invoice discounts were applied.
