Lightspeed Accounting displays an error message if there’s an issue when posting data to your accounting software. Typically issues like this are caused by issues with your settings in Accounting. Follow the steps for the error you’re seeing to resolve the issue.
Required param missing, need to supply the required value for the API
This error means your product categories don't have the necessary Inventory Asset account mapping in their cost of goods sold (COGS). To resolve this, add the mapping in your settings under Settings > Accounting > Inventory & COGS. Regenerate and repost the failed data.

This error means your accounting software is disconnected. To reconnect your accounting software:
- In Accounting, navigate to Settings > Accounting.
- Click Change > Add new company.
- Enter your admin credentials.
- Once your accounting software has been reconnected, regenerate and repost the failed data.
nullInvalid Reference Id : Invalid Reference Id : Accounts element id [00] not found
This error usually occurs if your account isn’t in your accounting software.
- Navigate to Settings > Companies > Reference data.
- From there, search for the account and its ID in the General Ledger (GL) accounts.
- If you find the account, check in your accounting software to confirm that the account is there.
- If you don’t find the account, add it to your accounting software. In Lightspeed Accounting, navigate to Settings > Accounting > Refresh the reference data.
Once the data’s been refreshed, you can map the POS item to the correct account. Then regenerate the data and repost.

This error is displayed when updating a posting has failed. It usually means that the data either wasn't received by your accounting software, or that it was deleted, causing the update to fail. Contact Lightspeed Support so our team can manually post the data.
A business validation error has occurred while processing your request : Business Validation Error: You need to activate this item before updating the quantity.
This often happens when you've chosen Itemized or Summary sales receipt as a posting method, then mapped an item or category to an Inventory type item instead of a Service. To resolve the issue:
- In Lightspeed Accounting, navigate to Settings > Companies > Reference data.
- Check and confirm if the item type is Service or Inventory.
- If you find any items with the inventory type, map that Retail item/category to the correct item.
You can also encounter this error if you have identically named items in QuickBooks (QB) which have different item types. If a QB item has an identical name to another item, choose the alternative item, then regenerate and repost.
nullA business validation error has occurred while processing your request : Business Validation Error: Make sure all your transactions have a sales tax rate before you save.
This commonly impacts Canadian merchants due to GST/HST taxes. This error typically shows if you choose Summary or Itemized sales receipt as a posting method, with Track sales tax in QB enabled in General Settings. To resolve this error:
- Navigate to Settings > Accounting > General Settings.
- Enable Use Non-US tax model.
- Navigate to Reports > Sales Totals.
- Filter for the affected dates
- Regenerate and repost the data.
When regenerating and reposting the data, don’t reload it. This will create a different sales receipt table.
A business validation error has occurred while processing your request : Business Validation Error: You must specify a transaction amount that is 0 or greater.
This error occurs in Lightspeed Accounting when the sales total is negative. Negative sales totals are not supported. Manually enter the data into your accounting software.
