Troubleshooting your cash drawer

Cash drawer not opening for cash/any sales

Your cash drawer settings may be configured to never open. You can select to have the cash drawer open for all payment types or cash only.

  1. Navigate to Settings > General Options.
  2. Click the Cash Drawer (iPad and Lightspeed Hub only) dropdown and select:
    • All Payment Types (default): All printed receipts will open the cash drawer.
    • Cash Only: the cash drawer will only open with a cash sale receipt is printed.
    • Never: the cash drawer will not open for any printed receipts.
  3. Click Save Changes.

Cash drawer won't open / receipts won't cut

    1. Make sure that all cords and power cables are secure. If the receipt printer doesn't have power, the cash drawer won't open. Once the cables are secured, make sure that the printer has paper and the power to the receipt printer is on.
    2. Right click on your Windows icon.
    3. Click on the Control Panel.
    4. In the top right hand corner of the Control Panel, change the View by drop-down to Category.

    5. In the Categorylabeled Hardware and Sound, click View devices and printers. Your printer should be listed as Star TSP143 unless it has been renamed.
    6. Right click on the Star printer icon and click on Printer properties.

    7. If you see a shield on the button marked Change Properties, click itbefore moving forward.

    8. Click on Device Settings and change the information to the following:
      • Paper Type: Receipt
      • Page Cut Type: Partial Cut
      • Document Cut Type: Partial Cut
      • Peripheral Unit Type: Cash Drawer
      • Peripheral Unit 1: Document Top

    9. Click OK and then do a test print from Lightspeed Retail.
    1. Make sure that all cords and cables are secure. If the receipt printer doesn't have power, the cash drawer won't open. Once the cables are secured tightly, make sure that the printer has paper and the power to the receipt printer is on.
    2. Open a completed transaction by going to Reports > Totals and clicking on any Sale ID.
    3. Click Print Receipt to check the print settings.
    4. Once the transaction has been opened, make sure that the Paper Size is set to 72mm * 2000mm (2.83 * 78.72 inches) and that all the Page Headers and Page Footers drop-downs are set to blank.
    5. Select the Star receipt printer you are using.
    6. Select the Paper Size 72mm x 2000mm or 2.83 x 78.72 inches.
    7. In the Page Headersand Page Footersdrop-downs, make sure thatthey are all set to --blank--.
    8. In the in the drop-down withFirefoxselected,change it to Printer Features.
    9. Under Printer Features, there will be a new drop-down called Feature Sets.Change itto Cut Options.
    10. Change both 1. Page Cut Type and 2. Document Cut Type to Partial Cut.
    11. Change the Feature Sets drop-down to Cash Drawer Control. Change the Cash Drawer drop-down to Open Drawer 1.
    12. Save these settings as a preset. Under the Presets drop-down menu, select Save Current Settings as Preset... Simply name the preset Receipts, click OK and then click the Print button in your printer dialog box.
