Troubleshooting your credit card swiper

If your swiper does not read cards correctly, try plugging it into a different computer. If that doesn't solve the problem, contact us and we'll help you with troubleshooting.

If your swiper works on another computer but not the first one

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. If you use a PC, on the Tools menu click Options. If you use a MAC, under Firefox click Preferences.
  3. Click Advanced > General and clear Use hardware acceleration when available.
  4. Try to swipe in Lightspeed Retail again.

If you are on a MAC and your swiper works on another computer

  1. Unplug your swiper.
  2. Open Terminal.
  3. Type sudo rm /Library/Preferences/com.apple.keyboardtype.plist and click Enter.
  4. When you are prompted for the computer password enter it and click Enter.
  5. Plug in your swiper again.
  6. When the keyboard identification window appears close it without making any changes.
  7. Try to swipe in Lightspeed Retail again.
