Hi. How can we help?

Setting up payment processing with Cayan's Genius Handheld terminal

The Genius Handheld is an EMV-enabled payment terminal for Cayan payment processing in Lightspeed Retail. The Genius Handheld is compatible with Lightspeed Retail for desktop and the Lightspeed Retail app for iOS.

Note: This payment terminal is no longer available for purchase, but is still supported on accounts that already have it.

  • Genius Handheld payment terminal
  • USB charging cable
  • AC adapter

Physical setup

The terminal will need to be fully charged and updated before it can be added to your Lightspeed account.

  1. To charge the terminal, plug the provided USB charging cable into the terminal and a power source. For best results, we recommend plugging the cable into a dedicated charging block into a wall outlet. Upon first use, the terminal will need to charge for at least 4 hours.
  2. If the terminal does not power on automatically when plugged in, press and hold the top power button.

Note: To power the terminal off, press and hold the power button until the display turns off.

Adding the Genius Handheld payment terminal to your network

Before the terminal can be added to your Lightspeed Retail account, it needs to be connected to your local network. Once the terminal is plugged into a power source, it will automatically begin a boot-up and update sequence. This process typically takes several minutes. Once completed, the terminal screen displays the Genius by Cayan idle screen. You can now connect the terminal to your network.

  1. To power on or wake the terminal from sleep mode, press and hold the power button on the top of the terminal.
  2. To unlock the terminal screen, swipe the lock icon in any direction.
  3. From the home screen, tap Settings > Wi-Fi.
  4. Tap the toggle to enable Wi-Fi.
  5. A list of available networks will be displayed. Select your network from the list.
Note: This must be the same network accessed by Lightspeed Retail.
  6. Enter your Wi-Fi password.
  7. Tap Connect.
  8. Tap the home button to return to the home page.

Configuring the Cayan gateway

  • Configuring the Cayan gateway on your computer

If you have not already enabled Cayan as your default gateway, you will need to configure your payment settings before the payment terminal can be added to your account. 1. Log in to Lightspeed Retail as an administrator using your username and password.
    2. Navigate to Settings > Payment Processing.
