To set up your printer, you first need to install Lightspeed Hub on your computer. Lightspeed Hub is a desktop application that helps you set up your hardware in fewer steps and guides you through the process. It also connects directly to Retail POS (R-Series), bringing you a reliable connection to your hardware throughout your business day.

  • Setting up your printer on desktop

Once Lightspeed Hub is installed, connecting your printer to your computer with a LAN cable involves the following steps:

    1. Connect your printer

To connect your printer, you need its power cable and LAN cable.

    1. Remove the back cover of your printer. Product_2022_7018_Star_MC-Print3_OpenBack.jpg
    2. Connect the LAN cable to your printer and a LAN port on your router or wall.
    3. Connect the power cable to your printer and electrical outlet.
    4. Attach back the cover of your printer.
    5. Turn on your printer

The power LED light will light up.

    2. Insert a paper roll

    1. To open the printer's cover, pull the lever on the left-hand side of the front of the printer.
    2. Insert the paper roll in the following orientation. While doing so, make sure the paper roll is taut and doesn't unroll. Product_2022_7017_Star_MC-Print3_Printer_Front_Open.jpg
    3. Pull the paper out past the cutter at the front of the printer.
    4. Push the cover to snap the lever shut.

The printer's IP address will print to confirm it is successfully connected to the network.

If your test receipt does not print, you can always self-print by following these steps:

    1. Hold the power button to turn off your printer until the LED light turns off.
    2. Hold down the feed button and the power button and release them.
    3. Self-printing should start and print the IP address on the receipt.

    3. Add your printer to Hub

Before connecting your printer to Hub, make sure your computer is connected to the same network as your printer. For help connecting your network on your computer, please see the Apple and Windows help centers.

    1. On your computer, open Lightspeed Hub
    2. Under Receipt printer, select Connect
    3. Select Ethernet or Wi-Fi.
    4. Select Search for printers. After a few seconds, your printer will display in the list as Ready. If not, make sure it's connected to your computer and a power source correctly.

You can only connect one printer to Hub at a time. To connect a new printer, select Forget this device to disconnect the printer that’s currently connected.

Your printer will now display as Ready in both Hub and Retail POS.

    4. Print a test receipt

    1. In Retail POS, go to Settings > Locations
    2. Select Customize next to your location.
    3. In the submenu, select Receipt setup.
    4. Select Print preview and the test receipt should print. Print-preview-hub.jpg
