Selling gift cards has many upsides—they're more personal than cash, they make gift-buying easy and you can buy them last minute. However, selling physical gift cards has its downsides—they're made of plastic and cost money.
With Lightspeed, you can recycle physical gift cards that have a balance of zero. This allows you—or your customers—to recharge and reuse gift cards once they're fully redeemed. More recycled gift cards, happier planet. This also allows you to reduce the number of physical gift cards you need to purchase and add to circulation. Or, to avoid these downsides altogether, simply start using digital gift cards. You can do that with Lightspeed too.
To recycle a gift card:
- Search for the gift card to confirm that its current balance is zero.
- If it does have a balance of zero, recharge it as you typically would.
Your customer's gift card is now recycled and recharged. It also has the Recycled status if you view its details under Customers > Gift Cards.
