Hi. How can we help?

Creating tiered discounts rules

Creating tiered discount rules is a great way to increase the discount you give to your customers depending on how many items they purchase. To do so, you need to create a discount rule for each tier you want to offer. Retail POS will then automatically apply the highest discount rule that the customer qualifies for depending on how many items they're purchasing. To illustrate, here's how you can offer 25% off if your customers purchase 2 candles and 50% off if they purchase 4 candles. To create these tiers, you need to create a "Buy 2 Candles, Get 25% Off" discount rule and a "Buy 4 Candles, Get 50% Off" discount rule.

To create the "Buy 2 Candles, Get 25% Off" discount rule:

  1. From the main menu, go to Settings Price & Discount Rules.
  2. Select +New Rule.
  3. Next to Discount rule, select +Create.
  4. Under Discount timing and customers, enter the name "Buy 2 Candle, Get 25%". It'll appear in the sale and on the sales receipt.
  5. Optionally, select the specific location(s) you want your discount rule to apply to.
  6. Select the start date of your discount rule. This is necessary for the price rule to work.
  7. Optionally, select Set end date followed by your discount rule's end date.
  8. Optionally, select the specific customer type(s) you want your discount rule to apply to.
  9. Under Customer buys, in the Quantity field, enter 2.
  10. Optionally, if a customer must buy the same candle in bulk, select Must be the same.
Note: You must enter a quantity of at least 2 to enable this checkbox.
  11. Under Customer gets, select Equal discount on each item.
  12. In the Discount amount (%, $), enter 25.
  13. From the Discount type drop-down, select % off.
  14. Select Save Changes. A new area where you can add items will display.
  15. Under Add items or Add multiple items, do an item search to add the candle(s) you want the discount rule to apply to.

Once you added your items, they'll be listed on the left-hand side of the page. You'll just need to make sure that the DISCOUNTABLE checkboxes of your items are selected. This makes them eligible for the discount rule (and discounts in general).

Now, create the "Buy 4 Candles, Get 50% Off" discount rule:

  1. Still in the "Buy 2 Candles, Get 25% Off" discount rule you just created, select Duplicate at the top-right of the page. This will create a duplicate discount rule with all the same settings (except the start and end dates).
  2. Under Discount timing and customers, enter the name "Buy 4 Candle, Get 50%". It'll appear in the sale and on the sales receipt.
  3. Select the start date of your discount rule. This is necessary for the price rule to work. Likely, it'll be the same as the "Buy 2 Candles, Get 25% Off" discount rule.
  4. Optionally, select Set end date followed by your discount rule's end date. Likely, it'll be the same as the "Buy 2 Candles, Get 25% Off" discount rule if you've set one.
  5. Select Save Changes.

If the rest of your settings are the same as the "Buy 2 Candles, Get 25% Off" discount rule you just created—you're all set! Once the start date of your discount rules arrives, Retail POS will automatically apply the highest discount rule that the customer qualifies for depending on how many items they're purchasing.
