5 e. Closing the Register

At the end of each business day, we recommend closing the register to determine if you have any discrepancies in your till. Depending on if you are using Retail for desktops or iPads, the workflow to close your register differs slightly.

Desktop

Closing the register

  1. From the main menu, go to Sales > Close Register.
  2. Count your cash denominations.
  3. Enter your closing count. 
  4. Click Submit Count.
  5. Click Save Counts.

Correcting discrepancies

If you have access rights, you can go to Settings Adjust Payment Types to switch incorrect entries made during the day. You can also go to Reports Closing Counts to edit the closing counts even after they're submitted at the end of day.

iPad

Closing the register

  1. From the main menu, tap the Lightspeed logo on the top left.
  2. Select Manage Registers.

    NOTE: You can also tap your shop name just under the Lightspeed logo

  3. Tap Close under your register's icon.
  4. Count your cash denominations.
  5. Enter your closing count. 
  6. Tap Save.

Correcting discrepancies

You can also adjust payment types and closing counts from your iPad. To do so, tap the Lightspeed logo in the top left. From the main menu that appears, tap Retail ManagerSettings or Retail Manager Reports to go into Retail Manager mode. From there, follow the instruction in the Desktop section above.

Desktop

If you have a multi-store account or multiple registers:

  1. From the main menu, click the shop name on the top left to change your shop.
  2. Select another shop and/or register.

    NOTE: If you are in the correct shop already but have multiple registers, from the main menu, you can also tap Sales Switch Registers to select another register.

  3. Click Sales > Close Register.
  4. Count your cash denominations.
  5. Enter your closing count. 
  6. Tap Submit Count.
  7. Click Save Counts.

iPad

If you have a multi-store account or multiple registers:

  1. From the main menu, tap the Lightspeed logo on the top left.
  2. Select Manage Registers.

    NOTE: You can also tap your shop name just under the Lightspeed logo

  3. Select another shop and/or tap Close under your register's icon.
  4. Count your cash denominations.
  5. Enter your closing count. 
  6. Tap Save.
