Setting up payment processing with Tyro (Yomani/Yoximo terminal)

Feature Disclaimer: If you would like to use the Tyro integration with Lightspeed Retail, please contact Lightspeed Support. They will enable the feature in your account and can answer any questions regarding your gateway setup.

This article explains how to configure Tyro as a payment gateway in Lightspeed Retail POS and set up a Yomani or Yoximo payment terminal for use with Tyro.

Before you begin

  • Tyro payment processing is currently only available with Lightspeed Retail desktop.
  • Before proceeding, set up an account for your business with Tyro (https://www.tyro.com/). Once your account is set up, Tyro will send you your terminal—either the Yomani or Yoximo, depending on your selection—as well as your gateway/portal credentials.
  • Lightspeed Retail supports both the Yomani 3G Desktop and Yoximo 3G Mobile terminals. The hardware setup, including network connectivity procedures for the terminals, differ; for detailed setup information, refer to the corresponding terminal configuration guide provided to you by Tyro.
  • For security reasons, your Yomani/Yoximo terminal is shipped to you in deactivated mode. Once you connect the terminal to a power source, contact Tyro Customer Support to activate the terminal. You'll need your company’s trading name and the terminal's serial number (located on the terminal base) during the activation process. For more information, refer to the terminal configuration guide provided to you by Tyro.
  • To refund deposits back to your customer's credit card, you will need to select Credit/Debit and swipe the credit card in step 6 of the general refunding deposits workflow.
  • Lightspeed Retail does not support surcharge refunds. If you have surcharges enabled with Tyro and would like to include the surcharge in a refund using your Lightspeed account, you will need to create a non-inventory item, called surcharge for example, with a price of 0$. This will allow you to easily add and adjust the item as required during a refund and account for surcharge refunds in your reporting. If you would like to have a accessible button that adds this surcharge item in the Refund tab of your register, create a custom menu button using the Add Item type.

The main setup steps are:

1. Connect the Yomani or Yoximo terminal to the network

Connecting the Yomani 3G to your LAN via Ethernet

NOTE: The Yomani terminal connects to Tyro via Ethernet or 3G. For the purpose of this article, only Ethernet connectivity procedures are provided. To make sure your network settings comply with Tyro's requirements, visit Tyro’s website. For 3G connectivity procedures, refer to the terminal configuration guide provided to you by Tyro.

  1. Power on the terminal by connecting the power supply.
  2. Connect the terminal's Ethernet cable into the network port on the back of the terminal and the other end to a spare port on your network device (modem, router or switch).
  3. The Yomani terminal automatically detects the network and acquires the relevant settings for connectivity. If the terminal does not detect the network, check that the Ethernet cable is properly plugged into the terminal and the network device.

Connecting the Yoximo 3G Mobile to your WiFi network

NOTE: The Yoximo terminal connects to Tyro via Wifi or 3G. For the purpose of this article, only Wifi connectivity procedures are provided. To make sure your network settings comply with Tyro's requirements, visit Tyro’s website. For 3G connectivity procedures, refer to the terminal configuration guide provided to you by Tyro.

Depending on your WiFi router settings:

  • you can have the Yoximo terminal automatically scan for nearby WiFi networks. All you need to do is select the appropriate WiFi network (SSID) and enter your network password when prompted. If successful, the terminal connects immediately to Tyro.
  • or, you may be required to manually enter WiFi settings. You need to know the exact SSID of your network, your network's WiFi security settings, and so on.
  1. Power on the terminal by pressing the yellow Corr/ON button.
  2. Access the terminal menu by pressing Menu.
  3. From the terminal menu, press 3 Terminal Setup > 5 Wireless Settings.
  4. Enter your merchant password (provided to you by Tyro) and press OK.
  5. Press 1 WLAN Settings > 2 Add WLAN > 2 Scan. A list of available wireless networks is shown. Select your WiFi network. Enter a name for your network.
  6. Press OK.
  7. Enter your WiFi password/key.
  8. If you have multiple WiFi networks, enter a priority for the network, with 0 being the highest priority.
  9. Press OK. The terminal displays a confirmation that the WiFi network has been added.
