Setting up a Star TSP100III (WLAN) on your iPad

The Star TSP100III WLAN model connects wirelessly to your internet router and provides wireless receipt printing from your iPad.

Setting up your Star TSP100III involves the following steps:

  1. Connecting your printer
  2. Inserting your paper roll
  3. Connecting your printer to your wireless network
  4. Assigning your printer to your Retail account
  5. Printing a test receipt

NOTE: Like the Star TSP100 model, the Star TSP100III can also provide wireless receipt printing by connecting directly to your internet router with an ethernet cord. For more information on this LAN setup, click here.

1. Connecting your printer

  1. Connect the power cord to your printer and an electrical outlet.
  2. Turn on the printer and wait for the blue Ready light to become solid.


2. Inserting your paper roll

  1. To open the printer's lid, push the latch on the right away from you and lift the lid upwards.
  2. Insert the paper roll in the orientation below.
  3. Pull the paper out past the cutter at the front of the printer.
  4. Push the lid down to snap the latch shut.


3. Connecting your printer to your wireless network 

The simplest way to connect your printer to your wireless network is by WPS. If your router does not support WPS, you can connect by the AP network mode.

Connect by WPS

  1. On the back of your printer, press and hold the red PAIR button until the blue Ready light in front of the printer starts blinking.
  2. On your router, press the WPS button.

    NOTE: Step 1 and 2 need to be done within 30 seconds of each other.

  3. Once the connection between your printer and router is established, the Ready light will be solid and your Network Configuration and Current IP Parameters Status will print automatically.

    NOTE: If a connection is not established after repeating steps 1-3, refer to Star Micronic's FAQ - Cannot connect to network article.

  4. Under Current IP Parameters Status, take note of the IP Address. This is your printer's new dynamic IP address.

Connect by AP network mode

Connecting your printer to your computer by the AP network mode involves:

  1. Printing your Network Configuration and Current IP Parameters.
  2. Setting your wireless LAN settings.

1. Printing your Network Configuration and Current IP Parameters

  1. To turn off your printer, press the power switch on the left.
  2. While you printer is off, press and hold the FEED button on the front of your printer.
  3. Still holding on the FEED button, turn on your printer using the same power switch.
  4. Once your Network Configuration and Current IP Parameters Status print successfully, release the FEED button.
  5. Under Network Configuration, take note of the SSID. This is you printer's name.
  6. Under Current IP Parameters Status, take note of the IP Address. This is your printer's default static IP address.


 2. Setting your wireless LAN settings

  1. From you iPad, tap Settings.
  2. From the left menu, tap Wi-Fi.
  3. On the right, under Devices, select your printer's name.
  4. In the new window, tap Join Anyway.
  5. On the border of your iPad screen, press the home button.
  6. Tap on Safari.
  7. In the address bar, enter your printer's default static IP address.
  8. From the left menu, tap Login.
  9. In the new Authentication Required window, enter the following:
    • User Name: root 
    • Password: public
    • tap OK.
  10. To close the new security window, tap Cancel.
  11. From the left menu, tap WLAN Settings and enter the following:
    • SSID: your Wi-Fi network's name.
    • Security: WPA2/AES.
    • Security Key: your Wi-Fi network's password.
    • Tap Submit.
  12. In the new Saved Password? window, tap Not Now.
  13. From the left menu, tap the flashing red Save section and select the following:
    • select Save > Configuration printing > Restart device.
    • tap Execute.
  14. From the automatic printout, Under Current IP Parameters Status, take note of the IP Address. This is your printer's new dynamic IP address.
  15. On the border of your iPad screen, press the home button.
  16. Tap on Settings.
  17. From the left menu, tap Wi-Fi.
  18. On the right, select your Wi-Fi network's name.


4. Assigning your printer to your Retail account

  1. In Lightspeed Retail POS, from the main menu, tap the receipt printer icon 
  2. On the Printer settings screen, assign a receipt printer to your device:
    • Automatic detection: If your Star TSP100III is automatically detected, tap the printer from the list to assign it to your device.
    • Manual method: If yourStar TSP100III is not automatically detected, tap Manually Add Printer, enter a descriptive Name, enter your receipt printer's IP address, and then tap Save.

      NOTE: Click here for information on how to delete a manually added receipt printer.

  3. Select Automatically Print Receipt if you want to print a receipt for a sale when you tap the Finish Sale button. Otherwise you must manually tap Print Receipt after a sale to print the receipt.
  4. From the main menu, ensure the receipt printer status icon is green (see Hardware Status).


5. Printing a test receipt

  1. From the main menu, tap Retail ManagerReports > Totals.
  2. From the ID column, tap a blue Transaction ID.
  3. Tap the grey Print Receipt button. You should have a successful receipt and your iPad should be official setup for wireless receipt printing.
